Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple – Kanipakam

The Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple, located in the village of Kanipakam, Andhra Pradesh, is a highly revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is one of the most famous Ganesha temples in India and is known for its unique and miraculous attributes.

History and Significance

The temple is renowned for its Swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Lord Vinayaka. According to a popular legend, three physically challenged brothers (one blind, one deaf, and one mute) were digging a well for their fields when they accidentally struck a stone. As soon as the stone was hit, blood started to flow from it, and a stream of holy water emerged, which miraculously cured the brothers of their disabilities. The villagers then discovered a self-manifested idol of Lord Ganesha in the well. The idol is still in the well, and the holy water from the well is offered to devotees as theertham.

The temple is also famous for a belief that the idol of Lord Ganesha is growing in size over time. There are historical accounts of an armor offered to the deity years ago that no longer fits, which is seen as a testament to this miraculous growth.

Another unique aspect of the temple is its reputation as the "court of divine justice." It is believed that those with unresolved disputes or legal issues can take an oath in front of the deity after a dip in the holy temple tank, and the truth will be revealed.
