Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple

The Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at the foothills of the Tirumala hills in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. It is a significant pilgrimage site and a must-visit for devotees.

History and Significance

The temple is named after the great sage Kapila Muni, who is believed to have performed intense penance to Lord Shiva at this very spot. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati appeared before him and blessed him. The main deity, a Lingam, is considered to be self-manifested (Svayambhu).

The temple is also famous for the Kapila Theertham, a sacred waterfall located right beside the temple complex. It is believed that a dip in the holy waters of this waterfall can cleanse one of all sins. It holds a unique position as the only holy theertham out of the 1008 theerthams in Tirumala that is located at the foot of the hill. Many pilgrims visit this temple and take a dip in the water before beginning their journey up the Tirumala hills. The temple is currently administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
