The Sri Padmavathi Amman Temple, also known as Alamelu Mangapuram Temple, is a revered Hindu shrine located in Tiruchanur, near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is dedicated to Goddess Padmavathi, the consort of Lord Venkateswara (Balaji) of the famous Tirumala Temple.
The temple's history is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. According to legend, Goddess Padmavathi is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that she emerged from a golden lotus (Padma) in the sacred Pushkarini (temple tank) at Tiruchanur. Her name, "Padmavathi," literally means "one who emerged from a lotus."
The temple is significant as it is associated with the divine marriage of Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi. It is customary for pilgrims to first visit the Padmavathi Amman Temple before seeking the blessings of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, as it is believed that doing so ensures a complete pilgrimage.
